LA Songstress Claude Fontaine Gives a Nod to the Past with New Video

Her self-titled full-length was released last year via Innovative Leisure.

If you didn’t know any better, you’d think Claude Fontaine’s new video for “Pretending He Was You” was an archived clip of a 1960s-era Astrud Gilberto performance. The track, a sultry bossa nova number, is off her self-titled 2019 debut, and represents a welcome change of pace to contemporary pop and R&B.

“This video is an homage to the live in-studio TV programs that would feature musicians from around the globe in the 1960s and ’70s,” says Fontaine. “More often than not, those programs are the only footage I’ve ever seen of some of my most favorite Brazilian and international singers, which I cherish like artifacts. This is my nod to them.”

Fontaine premiered the video for “Pretending He Was You” on FLOOD. You can watch it here and listen to her album on Spotify.
